Two Berks BJJ members came home with second place finishes at this weekend's PABJJ federation tournament. Congrats to Ryan Owles and Dave Rittel on a job well done.

At the 9th Annual NAGA Battle at the Beach in Wildwood NJ, Berks BJJ members Rich Roth and Ricardo Pena came home with medals. Ricardo took 3rd place in the Advanced No-Gi and Blue Belt Gi welterweight divisions. At age 49 Rich took 2nd place in the over 30 No-Gi Beginners Lightweight. Good job to both.

At the Grappler Quest Copa Atlantica 3 Berks BJJ members came home with podium finishes. Shane Mock and Jeff G had first places and Randy Frey had a second place finish.

Berks BJJ had 3 members make the podium places at the NAGA World Championships this weekend: Michelle Sanchez, 3rd place in the Ladies WB Middleweight, Terry Dull, 3rd place Over 40 Expert, and Dimitryi Poltavskyi, 1st place in Kids Intermediate. Also BCBJJ part-timer Randy Frey placed 2nd in both Gi and No-Gi divisions in over 40 Intermediate. Thanks to everyone who represents the academy in competition.

On March 29th Paul LaPlaca will be putting his 2-0 Amateur MMA record on the line for New Breed Fighters at the House of Blues in Atlantic City NJ.

On Jan 12th 2008 the Vanilla Gorilla Ryan Owles made his MMA debut in Delaware for Combat in the Cage against Kevin Killian of Team Primal MMA . Although the decision didn't go his way Ryan fought well and will be returning to the Cage in the near future.

At the Battle at the Sun at the Mohegan Sun Casino, Paul LaPlaca won his second Amateur MMA fight by armbar in the second round to move to 2-0 with both wins by submission.

Great Job by Ricky Pena at the ADCC trials amateur tournament. Ricky, at 15 years old, won 4 straight matches in the adult beginners welterweight division to take home the gold.

Congratulations to Ryan "The Vanila Gorilla" Owles on winning his division at the Grappler's Quest Copa Atlantica. Ryan won four straight matches and did not have a single point scored against him all day.

BCBJJ's Derek Hopkins wins by KO at :58 seconds in the very first round to continue his unbeaten streak in the cage. Derek is now 4-0 and has yet to have a fight go into the 2nd round. MCA's Ricky Royce also won his amateur mma debut by 30-27 unanimous decision. Congratulations to both RGDA fighters and a big thanks to everyone who helped them prepare for their fights.
Unfortunately due to a rib injury, Dave Concepcion was unable to fight this Saturday at the Battle at the Pier. Best wishes to Dave on a quick recovery

Congratulations to BCBJJ instructors Michael Siani and Shane Mock for their performances at the 7th annual NAGA Battle At The Beach. Michael placed 3rd in the purple belt lightweight division and Shane won 1st place in the Masters Advanced Gi division. Also congratulations to our friends from Hershey, Randy and Jim, on placing 2nd in their divisions, and also to Terry Dull for winning 1st in the over 40 no-gi.

Members of our team joined with other RGDA representatives from The Modern Combat Academy and World Class Martial Arts to win the overall championship in the Soul Cup Championship at The Revolution Academy in Levittown PA. Our Berks representatives compiled a combined record of 13 wins and only 2 losses, one by DQ, helping to bring the Soul Cup to the Royler Gracie/David Adiv Team. Congratulations to Ricky, D, Derek and Mike S on a great performance.

Congratulations to Derek Hopkins on his victory last night in Combat in the Cage. He won by submission (arm bar) in the first round for the third fight in a row. Derek now has an unblemished 3-0 record in amat. mma.
